DEERFIELD — A tractor trailer fire on Interstate 91 early Monday afternoon caused the southbound side in Deerfield to be closed for about an hour. No one was injured in the fire, but the tractor trailer was damaged.
The fire was reported to police at around 12:30 p.m., according to Massachusetts State Trooper James DeAngelis. A tractor trailer carrying a load of wood pulp was on fire, and the blaze had spread into nearby brush alongside the highway.
Interstate 91 southbound was totally closed until 1:30 p.m., according to DeAngelis.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, he said.
The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured. DeAngelis did not release the name of the driver, but said he was a 46-year-old man from San Antonio, Texas.
Responding to the fire were State Police troopers from the Shelburne Falls barracks, Greenfield Fire Department, Deerfield Fire District and South Deerfield Fire District. According to a post on the Greenfield Fire Department’s Facebook page, the Bernardston Fire Department and Turners Falls Fire Department also assisted.
