BERNARDSTON — The Selectboard voted to reduce the year’s fees for liquor licenses by 50 percent to help businesses struggling with the added burdens brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Selectboard Chair Stanley Garland said many businesses lost money when they had to close at the start of the pandemic. Now that they are reopening, there are added costs from purchasing sanitation supplies and other equipment to operate outdoors or under health safety guidelines. Garland said board members wanted to do something to help offset these expenses.
Fees before the reduction were $675 for wine and malt beverage restaurant licenses or a farmer series pouring permit; $970 for an all beverage restaurant license; $625 for the Country Corner Store’s all beverage retail license; and a $20 fee for the Veterans Club’s pouring license.
“It’s not much, but it’s the least we could do,” Garland said.
