Orange, June 28

8:56 a.m. — A female flagged down an officer and advised there was a bear in her driveway, and that she is heading home to Lake Avenue now. Upon officer’s arrival the bear was eating out of a portable dumpster it knocked over in her driveway; the officer pulled into the driveway and pulled up to the dumpster, and the bear walked away to the tree line; the officer records the rest this way; “I then exited my cruiser and engaged in a long stare down with the bear, for which he wasn’t budging; I then hit the air horn, twice, and the bear then ran into the woods, ending the stalemate.”

11:23 a.m. — Officer wanted on East River Street where the caller advised that her neighbor called and wanted the police to respond to her residence because a male was out of control, and possibly on drugs; there was also an allegation of child abuse; officers responded, and investigated; report filed.

2:10 p.m. — Officers executing a Chapter 12 process on East Main Street, and the male was transported to Athol Memorial Hospital by an officer; Athol Police assisted with the male, who was resisting at the hospital; the male will be charged with disorderly conduct.

5:32 p.m. — Shelburne Control took a report of a black bear near the playground on East River Street; both units responded and the bear was escorted into the woods south of Big G’s; several people had to be advised to get away, and leave the bear alone.

Greenfield, June 29

1:40 p.m. — Burglar alarm sounding from the Learning Center at Oak Courts; officers found entry was made through an unlocked east door by an involved person who was attempting to use the community room; she was unaware that the building alarm had been set.

2:53 p.m. — Accident at Planet Gas on the Mohawk Trail where the caller says there is an accident but with no injuries; the box truck struck the roof; Fire Department and officer dispatched, building inspector requested, and notified; building inspector and fire officer deemed the building to be safe, the truck struck the building from the parking lot.

3:36 p.m. — Report of people riding ATVs at Kimball Drive where younger children were riding a small ATV in grass/dirt area of the drive, and the officer advised that ATVs shouldn’t be driven on a public way; the children were wearing proper safety equipment.

3:38 p.m. — Multiple callers reporting a low hanging height indicator on Eunice Williams Drive; DPW was advised.

3:43 p.m. — Caller from Grove Street reports she was verbally assaulted by a female at a neighbor’s house; officer to call back; the reporting person only heard the words and didn’t see the other involved female; the reporting person wants a follow up on identifying the female, with court action; officer went to the residence, and attempted to identify the neighbor, but no contact; he also met with the reporting person to advise it wasn’t an assault and battery or assault crime; but will attempt to identify the female; the reporting person wants to apply for a harassment prevention order; officer tried to assist in gathering names for the complaint to acquire an harassment prevention order, but was unable to make contact with any people in the neighboring house.

4:58 p.m. — Report of a vehicle operating erratically on Chapman Street where the reporting person says two ATVs were being ridden on the sidewalk in this area; situation investigated, but no action required.

5:09 p.m. — Larceny reported at Valley Medical Group on Conway Street where the caller reported her purse was stolen from her vehicle while she was attending a class there, report taken.

5:12 p.m. — Town bylaw violation near Rite-Aid on Main Street where the officer found a person riding a bicycle on the sidewalk, and the rider was advised and warned.

10:26 p.m. — Disturbance at Cumberland Farms on Main Street where the caller reports a group of people outside, two males and three females, and reports that a female slammed a guy up against a wall; the reporting person stated that she wanted to remain anonymous, and was unable to describe what the male was wearing for clothing; officers on scene and found the incident unfounded; people were dispersing on officers arrival, and reported no issues, and no police assistance needed.

Montague, June 29

1:23 p.m. — Two-vehicle accident reported near the Heat Fab Co. on Industrial Boulevard; one vehicle has possible axle damage, but no injuries, smoke or fluids, and negative for airbag deployment; a citation was issued to the operator of one vehicle who was on a learner’s permit.

1:43 p.m. — Report of an accident on Route 63 southbound where the son advised his mother struck a deer on Route 63 earlier today, officer spoke with the son and mother, who agreed the accident appears to have happened in the Sunderland portion of the highway; phone number was given for Shelburne Control.

1:56 p.m. — Shelburne Control requests Montague Police assistance with Wendell and New Salem police in pursuit of a vehicle, and was last known to be on Montague Road in Wendell; officers advised, and en route; however, Control then called to advise the subject is in custody, and Montague Police can stand down.

3:11 p.m. — Report of an accident on Route 63 where Sunderland Police reports the accident was in Montague; officer advised and will respond to view the damage with vehicle versus a deer.

4:25 p.m. — Caller from Hanna Brook Lane reports a trailer that he had at this location is missing, possibly since yesterday and he believes the former owner may have taken it; it os a 1989 travel trailer that has been stripped down to a hauling trailer; no plate as it wasn’t registered, and the reporting person was able to provide the title to the trailer; officer spoke to the reporting person; the listed owner of the title will be coming in to pick up the title; he will be in contact with the owner of the bill of sale and speak to him about this issue; he was given his options.

8 p.m. — Caller from N Street reports his neighbor was out watering the grass and flowers and the spray was coming into his windows; he attempted to speak to the neighbor to stop, and she advised him to close his windows, and then slammed the door in his face; officer spoke with both people and believes this is going to be an ongoing issue; both were advised of options.

8:47 p.m. — Breaking and entering, reported on Avenue C where the reporting person called on behalf of his neighbor who says her apartment was broken into and items are missing; no obvious signs of forced entry. Officers investigating.
