GILL — Officials said a body found floating in Barton Cove last week is the man who many believe jumped from the French King Bridge last month, on May 18.
“It is John Bean from Greenfield,” said District Attorney Mary Carey, who confirmed Bean’s identity late Thursday evening. She said there wasn’t any more available information at the moment.
On Saturday, Bean’s widow, Jan Jee Bean said the clothes her husband was wearing on the day he may have jumped matched the clothing found on the body, which was discovered by a kayaker June 7.
Police were alerted to his possible suicide after they found John Bean’s car parked on the bridge.
Jan Jee Bean said that before his apparent suicide, her husband, who served as the Greenfield department of public works superintendent, suffered from anxiety and depression.
A memorial service for the former superintendent as a loving husband, father and environmentalist.
