I appreciated your helpful “Moment of Truth for Sunderland” editorial, but you drew the wrong lesson from last year’s passage of an override to purchase a new fire truck for the Town. The reason for the overwhelming ‘yes’ vote was not because “if it’s got wheels, it’s golden” as your editorial said, it was because our Fire Chief Steven Benjamin, made a well-prepared and carefully argued presentation about why buying that particular truck at that particular time would be a benefit to Sunderland. Persuasion and commonsense is why the fire truck proposal passed.
