WENDELL — Residents will vote to fill the same Selectboard seat twice in five months, now that a special election has been scheduled to fill the unexpected vacancy.
The special election will be on Tuesday, Sept. 4, to coincide with the state primary election on the same day, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Town Hall.
Candidates include Wanita Sears, 62, of Farley Road; Laurie DiDonato, 49, of Lockes Village Road; and Phil Delorey, 69, of Locke Hill Road.
The candidates — all three of whom have held municipal positions in Wendell — will compete for the seat left vacant by Jeoffrey Gavin Pooser, who announced his resignation on June 14 after being re-elected to a three-year term on May 8.
Pooser has been unavailable for comment about his resignation, but sent out an email to town residents explaining he wished to spend more time with his family.
“There is only so much time in the day, and my plate has been overwhelmingly full for years now,” Pooser said. “It has become clear to me that at this point in time, I need to prioritize and focus on my family.”
The last day to register to vote in the election is Wednesday, Aug. 15.
The last day to vote on an absentee ballot is Friday, Aug. 31, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Absentee ballots are available online or at the town clerk’s office.
