SHELBURNE — A year after exceeding its “stretch goal” of $200,000, the renovation of Fellowship Hall has begun.

“Fellowship Hall is an important place in rural Shelburne,” said Marion Taylor, one of the organizers. “Church groups, the Grange, the 4-H and many other groups and families use the hall regularly. Every second Saturday, there is a public supper and dinners are provided for many groups.”

The Capital Campaign has been organized by the First Congregations Church of Shelburne. The Capital Campaign Committee  established a three-year pledge period, and when the “Kick-Off Dinner” was held in March, pledges for the campaign had reached $179,620. By the end of April, the group had raised $242,501, including in-kind gifts, such as labor, Christmas trees and a quilt to be raffled later on.

The first building project is the insulation of Fellowship Hall, with the work being done by contractor George Dole of Shelburne, who will insulate the ceiling and install an insulation barrier around the main room of Fellowship Hall. There are plans to improve the kitchen, as the next scheduled project, Taylor said.
