HEATH — “This is the meeting we’ve been waiting for forever,” declared Selectwoman Sheila Litchfield, as town officials gathered Tuesday morning with representatives of Westfield Gas & Electric (WG&E) to hear about the process for the town’s broadband build-out.
Whip City Fiber project engineer Joe Parda, senior architect Richard Carnell and Nick Sarnelli of Precision Valley Communications laid out plans for surveying poles and designing a web-like network.
An early step was to locate where the 9-by-16-foot “hub” is to be located.
Parda said the network will basically be a “spoke-and-hub” design, in which a centrally located concrete building will house the equipment and all the fiber connections.
“Whip City Fiber” is the name used by WG&E for their broadband business, and Whip City Fiber technicians will soon be seen throughout Heath as they begin field work and route-mapping engineering in preparation for the fiber optic network design of the town’s broadband.
