Farm Fair next weekend

COLRAIN — K&L Organic Growers will be hosting “Hilltown Farm Flea and Flair Outdoor Market,” a special outdoor market from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 9 and 10, at their farm stand site at the corner of Coombs Hill and Greenfield Roads. “If people are interested, we may consider making it an annual event,” said Lori Shearer of K&L Organic Growers.

A Provençal-style market featuring West County flavors, the event features fresh and prepared foods, works of local artisans, furniture, antiques, books and music, clothing, and much more. This includes farmers’ produce, maple products, locally raised meats, handmade soaps, heirloom jewel art, seated body work, hand-crafted knives, jewelry and other gifts, as well as quality flea market treasures. Light rain or shine, there will be no admittance before 10 a.m. K&L reserves the right to cancel for serious weather conditions; public parking off Greenfield Road will be posted. For information, call Lisa Rose at 413-259-5937.

Register for Shelburne vote

SHELBURNE — The town will hold a special town meeting on Sept. 18, and residents who want to register to vote can do so during Town Clerk Joseph Judd’s regular hours on Mondays and Tuesdays, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Town Clerk’s office will also be open on Friday Sept. 8, which is the last day to register to vote for this special town meeting. The office, in Memorial Hall, 51 Bridge St., will be open Sept. 8 from 2 to 4 p.m. and again from 7 to 8 p.m.

Buckland vote nears

BUCKLAND — Buckland is also holding a special town meeting on Sept. 18. The deadline for voter registration is Friday, Sept. 8 from 2 to 4 p.m. and again from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Town Clerk’s office in Town Hall, 17 State St.

While Buckland and Shelburne have separate town meetings on the same night, both are voting to authorize spending for more stringent state-required monitoring of sewer system inflow and infiltration in their shared Shelburne Falls Wastewater Treatment Facility. The $25,000 expenditure for each town is to come out of sewer-user fees, not town tax dollars.

Ashfield artist’s work will be on display in State House

BOSTON — Ashfield artist Robert Markey’s installation, “SAFE?” will be displayed in the Massachusetts State House from Sept. 11 to 15, on the fourth floor, outside the House Gallery. It is sponsored by Sen. Adam Hinds.

The installation features paintings of children from Brazil and Cambodia — countries where children are at great risk of sex- and slave labor trafficking. The purpose of the exhibit is to raise awareness of this difficult issue, Markey says.

There will be a half-hour program on the issue at the exhibit on Tuesday, Sept. 12, at 10 a.m., followed by a breakfast reception in Hinds’ office, Suite 309, in the State House.
