The Franklin County Babe Ruth Baseball League will hold a general membership meeting tonight at 6:30 at St. Kazimierz Society in Turners Falls.
Discussion topics include skills evaluation and player draft, opening weekend, and the annual umpire and coaches clinic.
All interested parents are encouraged to attend.

FCBR will hold registrations Tuesday from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. at Frontier Regional School in South Deerfield, and Wednesday from 5:30 until 7:30 at Greenfield Middle School.
The Franklin County Mickey Mantle team will also have signups at these times.
Players ages 13 through 15 as of April 30 are eligible to play Babe Ruth, as are 12-year-olds playing school baseball on 90-foot diamonds.
Registration fee is $100 plus $50 for raffle tickets, which the players can recoup.

GML umpires sought
The Greenfield Minor League is seeking umpires for the 2016 season, which begins April 24 and runs through the end of June.
Games are played on Monday through Friday starting at 5:30 p.m.

GHS bottle and can drive
The Greenfield High School baseball team will conduct its annual bottle and can drive on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at Ruggeri’s Package Store.
Players will go door to door picking up bottlers cans, and residents can drop of their returnables at the store.

UMass beats Penn State
Sophomore attacker Buddy Carr totaled three goals and one assist to lead UMass over 20th-ranked Penn State, 11-9, in non-conference men’s lacrosse action Saturday in University Park, Pa.
Dan Muller and Ben Spencer each added a pair of goals, while Jake Lisauskas and Paul Spinney both notched a goal and an assist for the Minutemen (4-4), who have already played six ranked opponents this season.
Freshman Tom Meyers won 16 of 24 faceoffs (66.7 percent) to give UMass a sizable possession edge throughout the game. The Minutemen also held a 41-21 advantage in shots and a 31-21 edge in groundballs.
Grant Ament led ther Nittany Lions (5-3) witrh two goals and four assists. Mike Sutton added three goals.
The Minutemen are 8-3 overall when playing at Penn State, including 6-1 in the last seven trips.
UMass returns to the field on April 2 at Delaware at 1 p.m. in both teams’ Colonial Athletic Association opener.
UMass softball loses 2
Sophomore Meg Colleran registered a season-high 7 strikeouts Sunday for the UMass softball team in a 4-2 loss to North Dakota State in its final game of the Maryland Invitational in College Park, Md.
The game had been halted Saturday with UMass (6-16) leading 2-1 through three innings.
NDSU scored three runs Sunday when play resumed, as Jackie Stifter singled home a run and Bre Beatty roped a two-run double.
UMass’ runs came in the first inning. Erin Stacevicz led off the game with a single and scored on Jena Cozza’s base hit that was misplayed by the Bison defense. Cozza later scored in rundown.
Stacevicz finished with two hits.
Because of Saturday’s rainouts, the Sunday game against Boston University was canceled.
• On Saturday morning, Stacevicz smacked three hits for UMass in a 4-2 loss to Binghamton.
UMass scored twice in the third inning to grab a 2-1 lead. Stacevicz led off the inning off with a bunt single, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Taylor Carbone and scored when Cozza reached on an error. Cozza, who reached third on the play, scored on Kaitlyn Stavinoha’s single.
Binghamton tied the game in the bottom half of the frame and took the lead for good with two runs in the sixth.
UM baseball route Maine
Dyland Morris went 4-for-5 with three RBIs to power the UMass baseball team to a 10-1 win over Maine in a non-conference baseball game Sunday afternoon at Henley Field in Lakeland, Fla.
UMass (3-7) scored once in the first on John Jennings’ sacrifice fly, then Morris’ RBI double and Hunter Carey’s RBI single to make it 3-0 after three innings.
The Minutemen scored twice on just one hit in the fourth, Carey (3-for-5) doubled home a run in the fifth, and a four-run seventh inning broke it open. Jon Avallone had a sac fly, Morris clubbed a two-run single and Mike Hart (2-for-4) added an RBI base hit in the frame.
The Black Bears tallied their lone run in the eighth when pinch-hitter Patrick Coughlin roped an RBI double.
Freshman Justin Lasko (2-0) pitched eight innings of four-hit ball with six strikeouts and no walks for the win.
UMass is scheduled to face Holy Cross Tuesday at 3 p.m. in its home opener at Earl Lorden Field.
Officials course
The Connecticut Valley Soccer Officials Association will conduct an instructional course during April and May.
Members of the CVSOA referee scholastic soccer matches in Hampshire and Franklin Counties during the fall. Members must be 18 years of age or older and pass a background check. The instructional course includes both classes and field training, and candidates must pass a rules test. The classes take place on weekday evenings at Deerfield Elementary School. The course costs $50.

Montague teams signups
The Montague Parks & Recreation Department is accepting registrations for new teams interested in joining their co-ed adult softball league. Montague’s league is ASA sanctioned with umpires. Team registration is $600.
The season runs from May through August, with games on Monday and Thursday evenings.
A league meeting is scheduled for April 14.
