I would like to thank the Greenfield License Commission. After investigation and deliberation, they agreed to lower the fee for video amusement devises from $100 each to $100 for the first devise and $25 for each devise thereafter. It may seem like a small change, but it will lower the barrier to entry for video arcade like the former Rooney Arcade by $2,100. It makes it just that much easier to attract to Greenfield a Chucky Cheese, Dave and Busters or Quarters or local alternative. It will also save many local business anywhere from $75 to $375. Given our sustainable master plan’s call for investment in cultural and entertainment aspects of economic development, it was a move in the right direction. During the most recent election, I promised to work with the License Commission to get this done as part of my 10-point plan for economic development. I credit them for working with me to find a solution that will continue to protect the town, but which is not overly burdensome on business. There is a lot of work left to do in setting the stage to grow our local economy. I look forward to working cooperatively with all stakeholders in Greenfield to make that happen. Look next as Town Council takes up changes to zoning to allow accessory dwelling units, after the Planning Board’s comprehensive educational outreach. Progress is slow but it is coming.
