ORANGE — David Ames presided over his last meeting as chairman of the Board of Selectmen this week.
At this week’s Wednesday night meeting, Selectman Kathy Reinig thanked Ames for his time on the board and for introducing procedures that have streamlined some of the board’s work.
Ames thanked Reinig and fellow Selectman Walter Herk for their work, saying it’s something of a thankless job but he feels much good has come of it.
Whoever wins Monday’s election, Ames said, the board will be in a position to make the things they’ve talked about happen. Priority planning is to be among the first items on the new board’s agenda.
Ames served on the board for three years, moving from Athol to Orange town government after retiring from his post as manager of the neighboring town.
Having taken a new job after retirement, Ames said he is not running for re-election because he can’t give the post the time it deserves. Monday’s election will pick his successor, with Richard Sheridan and Richard Kwiatkowski on the ballot.
