DEERFIELD — The Franklin County Community Meals Program will hold its annual Breakfast Auction to raise money for its food pantries and meal sites in support of local hungry families.
On Tuesday from 7:30 to 9 a.m., the Franklin County Community Meals Program will hold its auction in Parker Dining Hall at Deerfield Academy. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the door, payment in cash and check. In the event of a snow day, the event will be held on March 17.
Caitlin von Schmidt, Greenfield Business Association coordinator, will offer her skill as an auctioneer for this event.
The auction, sponsored by the Hammond family, Stop & Shop, Berkshire Gas Co. and Attorney Daniel Graves, brings together Franklin County businesses and the community to support the needs of hungry families.
According to FCCMP Executive Director Andrea Leibson, “We served more than 23,000 free community meals last year and distributed more than 262,000 pounds of food at our food pantries. Food insecurity impacts so many households in Franklin County and local people depend on our programs to prevent hunger.”
Included at this year’s auction will be an offering of Empty Bowls provided by the Potters All Clay Guild of the North Quabbin area. Each bowl will represent FCCMP’s purchasing power at the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts; a $25 bowl will represent 500 pounds of food and $50 will represent 1000 pounds of food from the Food Bank. The pantries get nearly 12,000 pounds of food each month from the Food Bank.
