Second-seeded The Academy at Charlemont and seventh-seeded Hartsbrook School engaged in a an offensive slugfest before the host Aardvarks emerged with a 7-6 victory in the quarterfinals of the River Valley Athletic League boys’ soccer playoffs Wednesday in Charlemont.

Charlemont rallied from a 3-1 deficit behind Aiden Brenizer’s five-point performance (3 goals, 2 assists). Nat Boyd-Owens registered a hat trick and Liam Fisher also scored for the Aardvarks. Sam Fisher added an assist.

Goalie Kyle Nitzsche made 10 saves in goal, including one on a penalty kick.

AAC advanced to Friday’s semifinal, with the site and opponent to be determined.

Putney 4, Four Rivers 3 — Four Rivers let a halftime lead slip away as Putney (Vt.) School earned a 4-3 quarterfinal victory in the RVAL boys’ soccer tournament Wednesday at GCC.

Evan Leaf scored early on and Milou Rigollaud added a pair of tallies to stake the Otters to a 3-2 halftime lead.

Putney responded by tying the game midway through the second half, then Herzin Glerge scored the game-winner with 4 minutes to go.

Girls’ soccer

Four Rivers 3, BART 2 — Third-seeded Four Rivers scored three goals in the first half and had to hang on in the end to post a 3-2 win over sixth-seeded Berkshire Arts & Technology in the RVAL girls’ soccer quarterfinals Wednesday at Greenfield Community College.

The Otters advanced a semifinal match at second-seeded Dublin (N.H.) School at 2:45 p.m. Friday

Four Rivers scored just 2 minutes into the contest when Maddy Wallenius-Duda booted home the first goal, assisted by Maitreya Smith.

Just after the midpoint of the half, Smith scored an unassisted goal to give the Otters a 2-0 advantage, and Michaela O’Donnell used an assist from Hjordis Aho in the 35th minute to increase the lead to 3-0 by the intermission.

BART responded by taking advantage of some sloppy play by Four Rivers to score twice in a five-minute span midway through the second half. But the Otters were able to deny a game-tying goal and advance to the semis.

Teagan Cardaropoli made 2 saves to earn the win in goal.

Frontier 4, Easthampton 3 — Frontier Regional School battled back from a two-goal deficit in the final 15 minutes to beat Easthampton High School, 4-3, in a Pioneer North Division girls’ soccer match Wednesday night at White Brook Middle School in Easthampton.

Julia Riordan scored in the 67th minute, assisted by Sarah Meunier, then scored again two minutes later to tie it. Natalie Denkiewicz had the helper.

Denkiewciz put the Red Hawks ahead to stay with her goal in the 74th minute, assisted by Angela Self.

Elaine LaBarbera scored the first Frontier goal from Denkiewicz.

Maddie Grabowski scored twice and Karin Volpe added a tally for the Eagles.

Frontier hosts Mohawk Trail Regional High School Monday at 6 p.m. in its season finale.

Mt. Everett 4, Pioneer 0 — Mount Everett Regional School scored four times in the first half and went on to defeat Pioneer Valley Regional School, 4-0, in an independent girls’ soccer match Wednesday in Sheffield.

Gwendolyn Carpenter registered a natural hat trick by the 26-minute mark, and Maya Neski added a tally for the Eagles.

Leah Fuess recorded 18 saves for the Panthers, who were outshot 30-1. Madison Ullrich did not have to make a save to register the shutout.

Pioneer wraps up its season Friday at Belchertown High School at 4 p.m.
