GREENFIELD — Sometimes, the best way to understand how others live and work in your community is by sharing stories and experiences.
That’s what Human Rights Commissioner Momodou Sarr said is the focus of a new community writing group, which grew out of the commission’s effort to engage residents in transformative community exercises. The group meets twice a month at the Five Eyed Fox in Turners Falls, and all forms of expression are encouraged, including poetry, songs, discussions and more.
“We believe that writing as community members can help bring people together and connect our diverse identities,” Sarr said in a news release. “Members of the Saturday/Community Writing Group are residents of Greenfield and other surrounding communities who gather to write, compose, discuss and share multiple points of view about events in and around our community and the world.”
Sarr added that participants don’t need to have a new story to write at each meeting, but can bring ideas and questions, and get feedback from others.
The group’s next meeting will be this Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Those who are interested should contact Sarr at: msarr15@comcast.net
