WHATELY — A 53-year-old man from Chicopee was injured after he lost control of his 2021 GMC Canyon truck traveling southbound on Interstate 91 Friday evening, according to State Police.

At approximately 5:25 p.m., fire engines could be seen lining the highway near Exit 32 and firefighters were seen carrying extrication equipment to the vehicle, which had run down a slope on the side of the road and struck a tree.

“For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the vehicle lost control and struck a tree along the woodline of the highway, resulting in injuries to the driver,” State Police Trooper James DeAngelis said in a statement. “The information we have at this time shows this to be a single-vehicle crash.”

According to DeAngelis, the man was “conscious and alert.”

The crash remains under investigation by State Police.
