GREENFIELD — Three men and one woman were arrested Thursday morning after they allegedly broke into a home on West Street, two in possession of knives, and took turns beating the homeowner, according to police.
Dispatchers received a call from a woman inside a 36 West St. home at approximately 10:35 a.m., reporting there was a man inside the residence wielding a gun and a knife before the call was abruptly cut.
Police Chief Todd Dodge said police made several attempts to call the woman back, but the call went to voicemail each time. Upon arrival on West Street, Dodge said the reporting party had left, but police found seven people at the house, “three who were supposed to be there, four who were not.”
Dodge said the homeowner reported he was acquainted with the four people assaulting him, and that they were yelling derogatory names at him throughout the process and making accusatory remarks. He said the alleged assault is believed to be motivated by some “prior communication or interaction” between the victim and the suspects.
“The witness/victim, being the owner of the property, indicated that he was present inside and there were two others inside who were invited, one of which was sleeping,” Dodge explained. “When he went to his door, the door flew open and he immediately began to be assaulted by this group of four, at least one of whom had a knife [visible during the attack].”
The suspects were arrested at the scene and Dodge said the victim suffered significant injuries to his mouth and face, but declined medical treatment.
Michael Burek, Kortney Thurber, Bradley Trombley and Casey Guillemette will all face charges of home invasion, felony breaking and entering in the daytime, vandalizing property and armed assault within a dwelling. Dodge said Trombley will face two counts of vandalizing property for damage he allegedly imposed on police property. The suspects are scheduled to be arraigned in Greenfield District Court on Friday morning.
Dodge thanked Montague, Bernardston and Deerfield Police for their assistance with the case along with State Police, the Greenfield Fire Department, tactical medics and American Medical Response (AMR) ambulances.

“I’m just proud of the officers and the first responders because we were able to do this without any injury [to any responders],” Dodge said. “Four people were taken into custody on a home invasion with zero injuries [to responders] and zero property damage. That’s a win.”
