Greenfield, MA – Robert “Tex” Edwin LaMountain
December 11, 1941 – September 5, 2026
Tex LaMountain, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, musician, songwriter, and friend, died peacefully at home in Greenfield Massachusetts on September 5th, 2026, at the age of 84, under the care of Hospice, after years of living with an autoimmune disease.
Tex was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on December 11th, 1941, and raised in nearby Dalton by loving parents Joseph LaMountain and Katherine (Matheson) LaMountain.
On June 21, 1980, Tex married Patricia “Pat” DeCou, in Leverett, Massachusetts. Together, they built a lifelong partnership rooted in love, heartful-ness spirituality, family, music, and a shared commitment to making the world a better place.
Music was at the center of Tex’s life. As a musician, he had the rare gift for bringing people together through song. Over the years, he played with the Boss Tweeds, Clean Living, Bright Morning Star, Pat & Tex, and with numerous other musicians and bands, bringing music to college dances, Top 40 lists, activist concerts, and community gatherings of all kinds. His music was joyful and purposeful-a way to soothe the soul, celebrate life, and help shine a light on the challenges of life. Tex’s music will remain in the hearts and memories of all who heard him play. He was a songwriter who carried within him a lifelong story to tell through song.
Tex had a spiritual practice of meditation and personal growth that he shared with Pat, The Heartfulness Meditation, also known as Sahaj Marg or The Natural Path. This practice was central to them both since the 1990s. Quiet and patient, Tex listened carefully, thought deeply, and approached life with a generosity of spirit that made people feel heard and valued.
For decades, Tex also worked selling Lawson Products, a familiar presence wherever nuts & bolts were needed throughout western New England. His work brought him into contact with countless people, and his steady, kind, and unassuming nature left an impression far beyond the products he sold.
Tex’s greatest legacy will be the people he loved and the lives he touched. He leaves behind his loving wife, Patricia (DeCou) LaMountain; his son, Scott LaMountain, and his wife, Kimberly (Almasy) LaMountain, from his marriage to his late former wife, Imelda “Honey” (Cornelio) LaMountain; his daughter, Greta (LaMountain) Biagi, and her husband, Damian Biagi, from his marriage to his former wife, Judi Nydon; and his step-daughter, Jaka (Conklin) Saarony, and her husband, Gad Saarony.
He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Emily LaMountain, Connor LaMountain, Cameron LaMountain, Margaret LaMountain, AnnaMaria Biagi, Chiara Biagi, Shai Saarony, Sadie Saarony, and Max Saarony.
He leaves his loving brother, Dennis LaMountain, and his wife, Camille Harris; his sister, Virginia “Ginny” (LaMountain) Larson, and her husband, Andrew Larson; his late sister, Nina M. (LaMountain) Bowers and her husband, William Bowers; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Tex lived a life filled with music, love, curiosity, spirituality, family, friendship, and purpose. His was a quiet and impactful presence. Through his music, his work, his words, and the love he gave, he made the world kinder, more thoughtful, and more beautiful. The songs he made-and the love behind them-will live on.
Services
A family service and burial was held at Green River Cemetery on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
A Celebration of Life, “Tex Fest II” will be held on October 11th, 2026, at Hawks & Reed Performing Arts Center, 289 Main Street, Greenfield, Massachusetts.
