Warrenton, VA – Mary Phyllis (Dole) Cromack, 98, was born in Greenfield, MA, on April 26, 1927, to Hazel Nims Dole and Fred B. Dole. She passed away peacefully on the evening of December 16, 2025, ready to be reunited with her beloved husband Theodore (Ted) Cromack.
Mary is survived by four of her five children: Douglas Ted and Margot of Texas; Nina Allan of Vermont; Hazel Eringis of Virginia; and Charles Dole and his wife Norma of Virginia. She was fondly known as “Mamie” by her ten grandchildren, Margot Anne Johnson, Jessica Stalker, Tricia Freiberg, Fred Cromack Jr., Jason Keefe, Philip Cromack, Charles Cromack Jr., Kallie McRae, Ellen Ellefson, and Theodore Cromack. She adored her ten great-grandchildren, Elijah and Noah Freiberg, Charles and Evelyn Cromack, Apollo McRae, Jazmynn Cromack, Miles Stalker, Rachel Mary Cromack, Joesph Johnson VI, as well as many, many cherished nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of more than seventy-four years; her son, Fred Royal, whose widow, Connie, lives in Virginia, sons-in-law Charles Eringis and John Allan, her great-grandson Artemis McRae, her four sisters Kathleen Steece, Fredrica Canedy, SaraLu Plugge and Cynthia Redeker.
A remembrance will be held from 1 to 4 on June 27, 2026, in Shelburne Falls, MA at the Sweetheart Restaurant.
