Fire Department receives new Scott Air-Paks
HAWLEY — Five months after being awarded a $206,000 grant to replace decades-old self-contained breathing apparatuses at the Hawley and Cummington fire departments, the new equipment has arrived.
Each department received 13 Scott Air-Paks through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program. In a post on Facebook, the Hawley Fire Department said that with the new Air-Paks, firefighters will be better equipped to enter smoky environments.
“They offer approximately 50% more breathing time, are designed for greater ease of use and firefighter visibility, and meet the latest [National Fire Protection Association] safety standards. They will make our firefighters and our residents safer,” the department wrote. “We are appreciative of FEMA’s support to our communities and for the efforts of everyone in Hawley and Cummington who helped make this project a reality.”
