In the March 12 headline story, “We can’t tax the bears and squirrels,” we see, once again, the concern in western Massachusetts that the population is declining, the schools are shrinking, and there is not enough of a tax base to support the schools. Is there anyone who will state the obvious?

The reason why the population is shrinking in western Massachusetts is because people are not having babies. Why are people not having children? Because we have a culture of legalized abortion, widespread use of contraception, and same-sex couples getting “married.” We have chosen a culture of barrenness. No fruitful love. The collapsing population in western Massachusetts is a self-afflicted wound.

Young people — don’t believe the hype! Read the headlines and note that this is where the establishment, with its lies about “sexual liberation,” is leading you — not to happiness, but to barrenness. There is another way. It is not too late for the good people in our communities to turn back to God and his teachings about marriage and family.
