This is a call, an invitation, a plea to all Americans to join in a No Kings rally on Saturday, March 28. We may not all think alike, vote alike, or agree on all the issues. But if you believe in democracy and that the government derives its power from and is accountable to the American people (not the other way around), then please show up and be counted.

This administration has made it clear that we the people do not matter to them. If we stay
quiet and hope it gets better or just goes away, we provide our tacit approval of all they are doing and this will continue. Robert Hubbell reminds us that this all stops when enough of us say NO! And history and research-based evidence bears that out. Large-scale protests and the news media coverage of them changes what the country pays attention to. See Black Lives Matter for example. It informs all elected officials about what is important to us โ€” thus shoring up those who are already working with us and helping to build backbone in those who are wishy-washy. And history and research have documented that throughout the world authoritarian regimes fall when 3.5% of the population publicly opposes them.

Change wonโ€™t happen overnight. But it is happening. Donโ€™t give up; show up! There will be
more than 3,000 No Kings Day events taking place throughout this country on Saturday, March 28 (find one near you at www.Nokings.org). In Greenfield, it will be from noon to 2 p.m., beginning with a festive, joyful march โ€” led by a giant puppet โ€” from Beacon Field at noon. Then we will all gather in front of City Hall for a special performance (more giant puppets!), music, and speakers.

Please donโ€™t think your presence doesnโ€™t matter. It does! As long as we donโ€™t give upโ€ฆ we will win!
