Madi Liimatainen began her collegiate career for the Saint Michael’s College softball team on March 13 in Viera West, Fla.
The Turners Falls graduate connected on the first base hit of her collegiate career in an 8-0 (six innings) loss to Saint Thomas Aquinas College in the Space Coast Spring Games at the United Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) Space Coast Complex on Friday.
Liimatainen’s base knock started the fifth inning for the Purple Knights (1-3). The inning would end on a sacrifice and a double play, stranding Liimatainen at third base.
On Saturday, Liimatainen went 1-for-3 with a walk in a 6-3 win over Felician University at the Space Ghost Complex.
MacKenzie Paulin of Greenfield made her fourth appearance in the circle for the Merrimack College Softball team on Saturday in North Andover. In her first home start at Warrior Diamond, Paulin gave up two earned runs, a hit, two walks with two strikeouts in two innings. Merrimack lost to Fairfield, 12-0.
Golf
The Thomas Memorial Golf Club Women’s League seeks new members for the spring season. The league meets on Wednesdays, with morning and afternoon sessions in Turners Falls. If area golfers are interested, please contact Dorothy Adams at dorothyadams26@comcast.net.
Shelburne Falls Bowling Alley
Here are the results from the rollers in Shelburne Falls for week ending March 13. In Sunday Scotch Doubles, Scott Schneider and Kendall Schneider rolled a 116 in high single and a 318 in high triple.
In Monday’s Mixed League, Tera Tippett carded a 107 in high single and a 276 in high triple. Chris Lafreniere rolled a 132 in high single and a 360 in high triple. In Wednesday’s Mixed League, Karen Herzog scored a 101 in high single and a 290 in high triple. Scott Roberts finished with a 115 in high single and a 306 in high triple.
In Thursday’s Mixed League, Colleen Barrows carded a 119 in high single and a 339 in high triple. Ryan Westort scored a 116 in high single and a 323 in high triple.
Greenfield Elks Pitch League
Here are the final results from the Greenfield Elks: first place: Bob Ferris, Tim Wondoloski (31 points); second place: Jim Elwell (30 points); third place: Todd Goulet, Jim Burke (29 points).
Berkshire Highlands Pentathlon
The 13th Berkshire Highlands Pentathlon will be held Saturday, March 28, at Berkshire East Mountain Resort in Charlemont. Registration is now open for all categories; Bravehearts, who do the entire course solo, family teams, and teams of 2-5. Discounted entry fees for family teams and entrants under 19-years old.
The five events are a 4.5-mile trail run, 18-mile road cycle ride, 2+ mile paddle, 2-mile adventure run and a climb up, ski down leg. Online discounted registration is at BikeReg.com. The event is in need of volunteers. This year’s benefactor is the Good Neighbors Food Pantry.
