Excellent March 4 My Turn [“Word matters, especially when using the word ‘facism'”] by writer Gary Midura to which I’d like to add, words unspoken or not printed also matter. Mr. Midura states Trump’s regime isn’t like Hitler’s or Mussolini’s who ruled by one party, abolished competitive elections, suppressed opposition media, eliminated independent courts, persecuted political opponents and supported state-dominated corporate structures… just add one word: yet.
Fascism, totalitarianism, authoritarianism (a rose by any other name would still smell
as sweet) does not happen overnight, but gradually and at a varying pace depending on
how successfully the current “let’s see what we can get away with this time” scheme is
going. If it isn’t going as planned, a diversion is created or the victim gets portrayed as the
villain.
Recently I sent an email to all 52 Republican U.S. Senators in which I asked what red
line does “Your President” have to cross to make you finally realize enough is enough and
stop him from doing more harm? After reading “Words Matter” I felt it might be
interesting to share that email with our readers.
How many red flags must go up or campaign promises so disparagingly executed will it
take for you to confront your president and stop him from doing more harm to our
country? Which of these campaign promises has Trump kept: deportation of illegal
criminal immigrants (worst of the worst); ending Russia’s war against Ukraine on day one;
culling out a bloated bureaucracy; putting American interest ahead of global issues; no
more endless wars? You cannot ignore so many facts that prove he is distorting those
promises and using them to gain complete control of the government so that the norm will
be that winning and making a profit are all that matters with no restraint on how that’s
achieved.
The ICE crackdown on illegal immigrants is just a pretense to invoke the Insurrection
Act so that he can suspend mid-term elections and stay in office as long as he wants. After
the first killing of a civilian by an ICE agent, any sane president would have stopped the
operation in a second and admitted something is terribly wrong here. How can you follow
the leadership of someone who condones his military killing protesters but pardons
convicted felons who defaced the Capitol and threatened โHang Mike Pence?”
One year later the war in Ukraine is still going on because he demands Ukraine give
Russia what land it wants. Instead of avoiding global conflict, he has caused disruptions in
Venezuela, Canada, Greenland, and Iran. He’s pledged $10 billion to his Board of Peace,
dismissing NATO as useless. Those conflicts weren’t to gain control for democracy, military
defense or drug trafficking, but to gain access to natural resources for his billionaire
buddies.
Instead of streamlining government agencies, he has sanctioned the removal of
any agency and/or personnel that might support regulations which could impede a
company’s bottom line. No Consumer Protection Agency regulations interfering with
profits. Green energy wind projects halted, can’t cut into fossil fuel profits. EPA won’t
report on health cost of pollution, but will report how much regulations cost an industry.
Many European countries are losing confidence in America. He governs only by his
own morality, no need for laws domestic or international. He has stated he likes winning
and owning things, and boasted he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and not lose a
single vote. Is this really someone mentally healthy to be the president of the United
States?
He creates a crisis then takes credit for correcting it: i.e. China suspended importing American grown soybeans in retaliation to his tariff threats so he bails out farmers’ losses with our tax dollars. See, problem solved! How vivid do the pictures he paints have to be for you to ask โwhat’s wrong with this picture?โ
He has weakened you power to regulate funding, tariffs, waging war, all in one year. He
is using extortion to get what he wants by cutting off allocated grants to institutions.
Loyalty to him is more important than competency or experience. Stop him before he has a
chance to bluster ahead for three more years to achieve his authoritarian goal. If your
reluctance to confront him is based on fear of retribution, shame on you. If you let him
succeed, then you are sanctioning your own demise and relegating your job in Congress to
just rubber stamping whatever bill he shoves at you to pass into law.
God Bless America and please God, help us.
