Greenfield, MA – Elizabeth A. (Schatz) Larabee, 97, passed away on January 16, 2026 at Charlene Manor. She was born on Oct. 13,1928 the daughter of Jacob and Mary (Yarmac) Schatz. She graduated from Turners Falls High School in 1947.
She married Robert G. Larabee on June 26, 1948.
Betty, and in her later years “Liz”, was the owner and operator with her husband Bob of the Butcher Boy on French King Highway for many years. Prior to that she worked at Charlemont Country Store alongside Bob who managed the store.
After Bob’s passing Betty enjoyed her employment at UMass in the dining commons and as a dorm maintainer.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church and belonged to the Holy Rosary Society. Betty was a committed volunteer to the Blessed Sacrament Adoration Chapel.
She volunteered in many capacities: Franklin Medical Center, Home Care & Home Health Aide, and in her earlier years as a PTA room mother, a Cub Scout leader and den mother in Greenfield for many years. She was also involved with the Brownies and Girl Scouts in Charlemont.
In her earlier years, Liz was an avid bowler, card player and enjoyed skiing. She loved family holidays and especially loved being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She leaves behind her sons: Leonard (Rebecca), Michael (Karen) and James(Lisa); grandchildren: Kerry (Sean) Larabee, Lindsay (Brian) Alger, Nate (Kelsie) Larabee, Alex (Edward) Larabee Allport, Ryan (Megan) Larabee, Kate (Nick) Larabee, beloved great grandchildren: Jordan, Paige, Chloe, Brayden, Nora, Magnolia, Brooks and Maya & her nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Robert G. Larabee, Sr., her son Robert G. Larabee, Jr., her brother Paul Schatz and her sister Jane Scott.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Friday (1/23/26) at 11:00am in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church at 84 K St., Turners Falls. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
There will be no calling hours.
