The Turners Falls swim teams swept Chicopee in a Constitution league match up at the Wes Snapp Aquatic Center on Friday.

The girls team (6-1, 6-1 Constitution) beat the Pacers, 62-31. The Thunder started with a first place finish (2:17.12) in the 200-medley relay. Avery Houle, Lillian Walker-Hanning, Tristan Bliss and Alice Fortin comprised the winning team.

Grace Fortin took first (3:15.10) in the 200 free for the Thunder. Lillian Walker-Hanning captured first place (2:58.69) in the 200 individual medley. Alice Fortin continued to dominate in freestyle events. Fortin took first in the 50 free (28.75) and the 100 free (1:06.03).

Adeline Cardona captured a first place finish (6:43.53) in the 500 free for the Thunder. Grace Fortin, Houle, Brynn MacLeay and Jade Walker-Hanning swam to a first place (2:43.22) finish in the 200 free relay.

Lillian Walker-Hanning won again in the 100 breaststroke (1:23.47). Lillian-Walker-Hanning, Rose Fortin, Bliss and Alice Fortin brought home a win (4:36.63) in the final even of the meet, the 400 free relay.

The boys team remained perfect after a 72-14 win over the Pacers. The Thunder (7-0, 7-0 Constitution) were the beneficiaries of several forfeits. Max Meyers captured a first place finish (1:14.07) in the 100 butterfly. Malcolm Tyler was victorious in the 50 free (27.22).

Liam Bliss swam the 100 free for the Thunder, finishing in 55 seconds.

Ryker Bray took first place (7:18.31) in the 500 free. Gilbert Cardona rounded out the wins against live competition with a first place finish (1:25) in the 100 breaststroke.

Boys basketball

Mohawk 51, Turners Falls 49 โ€” For the first time since 2020, the Warriors captured a victory in varsity basketball. Braydn Marcoux nailed a 3-pointer as time expired to lift the Warriors to the win in Buckland in a Tri-County North match up.

After a timeout with seven seconds left, Malcolm Briggs brought the ball up and found Marcoux coming off a screen to set up the game-winner. A dramatic celebration ensued.

“You would have thought we were sweet 16 champs,” Mohawk coach Fred Redeker said. “The kids were excited. They played a lot better. More mentally engaged. Everyone played their part. I am excited for the kids. They earned it.”

Marcoux scored 15 points on five 3-pointers for the Warriors (1-10, 1-6 Tri-County North). Cole Cross (13 points) and Charlie Georgantas (11 points) also reached double-figures.

Kainen Stevens had 17 points for the Thunder (2-7, 1-6 TCN), with Freilyn Abarua adding 10 points.

Greenfield 82, Mahar 45 โ€” Grayson Thomas dropped 41 points in the Green Wave’s win over the Senators in Hampshire North competition at Nichols Gymnasium.

Gavin Arsenault (11 points), Conner Bergeron (10 points) and DaSean Carter (13 points) all reached double-figures for Greenfield (6-3, 5-1). Matt Vitello and Ishan Coburn both had six points for the Senators (2-9, 2-4).

Athol 45, Hopkins Academy 30 โ€” The Bears went to Hadley and came home with a Hampshire North victory over the Golden Hawks.

“Tremendous effort all around,” Athol coach Brian Patria said. “The guys really leveled up their energy and intensity on the defensive side of the ball.”

Eli Wein scored 16 points for the Bears (5-4, 4-2 Hampshire North).

“Eli Wein had a fantastic game,” Patria said. “Iโ€™ve been waiting for him to break out and play with confidence.”

Dominik St. Andre added 12 points for Athol. Karim Thompson scored eight points.

Frontier 70, Smith Academy 28 โ€” The Redhawks were all over the Falcons in Hampshire North league play a Goodnow Gymnsasium.

Max Millette (10 points), Garrett Dredge (10 points), Alex Ellis (11 points) and Dean Gray (14 points) all reached double-figures for Frontier (10-1, 6-0).

Girls basketball

Mahar 53, Athol 23 โ€” The Senators prevailed in the crosstown rival rematch in Tool Town. Hayden Comeau led Mahar (8-2) with 16 points in the independent match up. Nastasia Sanders added 12 points.

Madi Hermes scored 12 points with three 3-pointers for Athol (2-10).  

Late Thursday results

Baystate Academy 54, Athol 22 โ€” The Bears lost on the road in a Tri-County North match up. Serena Nkengafe reached double-figures with 10 points for Athol. Abigayle Spooner added five points.
