Colrain to increase inspection fees
COLRAIN — The Selectboard has approved increasing the fees for inspections conducted by the Fire Department, effective Jan. 1. Fees range depending on the service requested, but for the most part, the fees will increase from $35 to $50.
Town Administrator Diana Parsons said the town currently pays the processing fees and administrative costs associated with inspections, and that raising the inspection fee would allow Colrain to cover those costs without dipping into what is paid to the inspector.
Inspections can pertain to smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors; installations of furnaces, propane tanks, oil burners, above-ground tanks, underground tanks and oil cargo tanks; storage of fuel or other flammable liquids, gases or solids; and fire reports submitted to an insurance company.
