Greenfield Light & Power prices to drop
GREENFIELD — Prices for Greenfield Light & Power, the city’s municipal group electricity buying program, are expected to drop by roughly 0.4 cents starting in January 2026. The price change will come as the current electricity supply contract with First Point Power ends and a new contract takes effect.
According to Mayor Ginny Desorgher’s office, Greenfield Light & Power will continue to provide entirely renewably sourced electricity. To balance cost with sustainability, as well as reflect changes in the renewable market, more of that electricity will come from renewable energy sources outside of New England for most participants.
Prices under the new contract will be as follows:
- Budget Green — 100% renewable electricity from a mix of sources both within and outside of New England for a price of 13.090 cents per kilowatt, which is lower than both the current Standard price of 13.498 cents per kilowatt and the current Budget price of 13.183 cents per kilowatt.
- Local Green — 100% renewable electricity from within New England for a price of 15.644 cents per kilowatt, which is lower than the current Local Green price of 15.717 cents per kilowatt.
The new Budget Green price is also lower than Eversource’s current Basic Service prices, which are in effect through Jan. 31. Because Eversource’s prices change and its future prices are unknown, future savings cannot be guaranteed.
Greening Greenfield screening ‘The Social Dilemma’
GREENFIELD — Greening Greenfield will present a free screening of “The Social Dilemma” at The LAVA Center on Thursday, Dec. 11, at 5:45 p.m. Doors will open at 5:20 p.m.
The film explores the world of algorithms — the ones deciding what you see online, how long you stay there and who benefits from your scrolling. It also touches on the urgency of the conversation, regulations and digital literacy.
Following the film, attendees will have an opportunity to discuss the pros and cons of social media use and the widening use of artificial intelligence in our daily lives within a capitalistic system that has few, if any, guardrails on this advancing technology.
Refreshments will be served.
