Nov. 29: Potholes Pictures presents ‘The Kid’
SHELBURNE FALLS — Attendees can enjoy a silent film with live accompaniment during Potholes Pictures’ presentation of Charlie Chaplin’s “The Kid” (1921).

The film will be shown at the Shelburne Falls Theater at Memorial Hall on Saturday, Nov. 29, at 7 p.m. “The Kid” will be preceded by “The Adventurer” (1917), a short comedy made before Chaplin made the leap into feature films.
Jeff Rapsis will use a digital synthesizer to replicate the sounds of a complete orchestra to score the film in real time.
“If you can put pieces of the experience back together again, it’s surprising how these films snap back to life,” Rapsis said in a statement. “By showing the films under the right conditions, you can really get a sense of why people first fell in love with the movies.”
Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for children at the door. For more information, visit shelburnefallsmemorialhall.org
The Art Garden issues call for art
SHELBURNE FALLS — The Art Garden, a nonprofit community art studio at 14 Depot St., is issuing a call for art in advance of an exhibit opening in early December.

The exhibit will explore themes of community, resilience, courage and hope. The Art Garden is asking artists, “Where are you finding hope and beauty in these dark times?” The show is unjuried, and everyone is welcome to submit their work, whether it be paintings, drawings, photography or live performances of songs, dances or poetry. The Art Garden will accept one piece per person.
Works can be dropped off at the studio on Monday, Dec. 1, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. and on Tuesday, Dec. 2, from 1 to 6 p.m., as well as by appointment.
An opening reception has been scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. For more information, visit theartgarden.org.
Rowe appoints Jakob Voelker as treasurer
ROWE — Just over a month after being appointed as the town’s new treasurer, Rowe Selectboard members said Jakob Voelker is settling in well and working with the town’s accountant to reconcile and balance the books.
“They’re working together and they’re making progress,” Selectboard member Bill Baker said during a board meeting last week.
“He’s made a lot of plans to change things to make his job easier,” Selectboard Chair Joanne Semanie added.
Voelker previously served as treasurer in Barre and currently serves as assistant treasurer in New Salem. He holds a Juris Doctor from the Massachusetts School of Law in Andover.
Voelker replaces former Treasurer Ben Gelb, who resigned earlier this fall.
