Originally from the astern part of the state I have lived in Franklin County for close to 50 years. I love its pastoral beauty and good people. I worked in human resources for private industries and I literally hired hundreds of talented, hard-working employees in our community.
For all these years I have been optimistic about the city of Greenfield, thinking that it was on the cusp of economic prosperity for the future. I am sad to say that I am no longer sure about this.
The recent controversy regarding the Hope Street lot has given me cause for concern. Quite frankly, as I read these impassioned pleas whether to vote yes or no I can’t help to think that what the city really needs is real economic development.
Have you ventured to the eastern part of the state? Do you see lot after lot of buildings with businesses that are pharmaceutical development centers, financial investment companies, medical research facilities … all those entities that put Massachusetts at the forefront of growth, earnings and income in America? Is there anyone in Greenfield working to attract one of these companies, perhaps to be located on Hope Street? I can guarantee you that Greenfield would benefit from one of those companies moving here, creating perhaps 200 jobs paying $100k/yr. And you know what would be the best thing after that? Two hundred more…
