It was an ideal home opener for the Greenfield boys soccer team Thursday.
Hosting Pioneer, the Wave found themselves in a 1-1 tie at the half but exploded for five goals in the second half to run away with a 6-1 victory.
Lucian Volosenco opened the scoring in the first half for Greenfield before Jack Laurie poured in four goals in the second half. Volosenco closed out the scoring while Grayson Thomas (2), Malcolm Briggs (2), Liam Grahame-Lawson and Arthur Fitzpatrick provided the assists while Grahame-Lawson made nine saves in goal in the win.
Matan Lerman-Smith scored on a penalty kick while Matt Richotte made three saves for Pioneer.
Franklin Tech 4, Athol 2 — Nathan Gheorghita scored a hat trick for the Eagles, three goals in the first half and one in the second to propel Tech to a victory on Thursday.
Cody Yetter provided two assists, Sorin Marin added an assist and Jakob George made six saves in the win.
Karim Thompson and Lucas L’Ecuyer scored for the Bears, L’Ecuyer and Andrew Botti dished assists while Drake Wing made six saves for Athol.
SICS 7, Mahar 0 – Jacob Baidoo scored four goals for the Bulldogs, which handled the Sens in a decisive victory on Thursday.
Claude Thompson made four saves in net for Mahar.
Turners 2, Hopkins 0 — Yolvin Ovalle and Noah Kolodziej each found the back of the net for the Thunder, defeating the Golden Hawks under the lights in Turners on Thursday.
Ovalle and Kolodziej each added assists in the victory.
Girls soccer
Frontier 1, Amherst 0 — Maggie Nichols recorded the lone goal of the game off an assist from Skyler Steele to lift the Redhawks to a victory in Amherst on Thursday.
Jazzy Hayes made 13 saves in the shutout.
Field hockey
Frontier 1, Agawam 1 — Addie Harrington scored the lone goal for the Redhawks in a tie with the Brownies in Agawam on Thursday.
Mace DeMaio had the assists while Brooke Charest made two saves for Frontier.
East Longmeadow 5, Greenfield 0 — Kayden Viencek stopped 14 shots in the cage for the Wave, though the Spartans put five on the board to take down Greenfield at Donna Woodcock Field on Thursday.
Mahar 8, Palmer 1 — The Sens put five goals on the board in the first half to run away with a victory over the Panthers in Orange Thursday.
Taylor Paluk scored three goals and dished two assists, Makayla Beauchemin tallied two goals, Carly Paluk scored and added three assists while Kathryn McGinnis scored and distributed two assists for Mahar. Bella Burnett made six saves in the win.
Turners 1, Franklin Tech 0 — The visiting Thunder won the battle for the Powertown, as Ella Larouche netted the game’s only goal in a County League tussle Thursday.
Franklin Tech held a 10-1 edge in penalty corners, but couldn’t get one into the back of the Turners cage.
Golf
Hampshire 155, Frontier 167 — Three birdies from both Brayden Fennessey (34) and Riley Florek (38) powered the Raiders to victory at Cherry Hill Golf Course.
Jacob Cornelison (39) and Brady Wood (39) paced the Redhawks on the links in the loss.
Volleyball
South Hadley 3, Athol 0 — Abby Spooner put down five aces, Gianna Vaillancourt tallied two kills, five assists and three aces while Bella Barton and Evelyn Robinson each added two kills in the Bears’ 25-21, 25-16, 25-20 loss to the Tigers on Thursday.
