My name is David Moscaritolo and I’m running for Greenfield School Committee; my name is first on the ballot; and the preliminary election is Tuesday, Sept. 9. I’d like to respond to the inflammatory rhetoric from the “Coalition for a Greenfield People’s Budget” and correct the lies they’ve posted about me.

Lie #1: I’m a long-time defender of the former police chief.
Fact #1: I was appointed to the Public Safety Commission (PSC) at the tail end of his employment with the Greenfield Police Department (GPD) and have worked closely with the current mayor to improve processes, policies and procedures at the GPD.

Lie #2: The insinuation that reinstating SROs in the schools is a “cash-grab” for the GPD.
Fact #2: I got involved in this when a private citizen called me about their son being severely beaten during a school incident and received no call from the superintendent.

Lie #3: I was in favor of cutting the GPS budget.
Fact #3: At the May 2025 City Council meeting, I stated “I support the schools and school funding 100%, but in a transparent and responsible way.”

Lie #4: The mischaracterization that the PSC is made up primarily of one political party.
Fact #4: Political affiliation of members is not part of any discussions by the PSC, nor does it influence the decisions made — and to be clear: I am an unenrolled voter.

True facts:
We have a purchase order of $3,200/month issued to a marketing company and no one in the GPS administration or on the School Committee can tell me what this is spent on. The school has millions of dollars in a rotating fund and is unwilling to spend it on students or teachers.

The school owns buses that goes to other western Massachusetts communities and busses their students all over their towns, having nothing to do with transportation of Greenfield students in Greenfield, and no one in the administration can tell us the cost or if the city of Greenfield is profiting from this business.

Greenfield has been one of the lowest-ranked communities in reading and writing in the state of Massachusetts for years. That’s zero commitment to our children.

If you vote for me, I’ll dig up the truth. If you re-elect the status quo, our tax dollars will be wasted and it will only hurt our children. Remember to vote on Tuesday, Sept. 9.

David Moscaritolo lives in Greenfield.
