Orange Fire Chief James Young was returning from a meeting shortly before 3:50 p.m. on Thursday when he passed a garbage truck on Daniel Shays Highway and noticed smoke showing from the trash hauler’s rear compactor. Young notified his department to start responding to the area and activated his emergency lights to stop the truck. Young used his vehicle extinguisher to keep the fire at bay until two fire trucks arrived to help. There were no injuries and the fire was contained to the compactor area of the truck with no additional damage.
