ATHOL — Four businesses are expected to move into the shopping center that hosts Market Basket, bringing with them additional convenience, employment and tax revenue for Athol.
Starbucks, Great Clips, Verizon Wireless and Sally Beauty are slated to open in North Quabbin Commons in the fall, according to Steve Cucinatti, a leasing representative for RMD Inc., the property management company that handles the leasing for DeMoulas Super Markets Inc., which owns the shopping center.
The center is home to Market Basket, Marshalls, Maurices and Shoe Dept.
Cucinatti said he reached out to the national chains and pitched the location on Tower Road.
He said representatives from the four businesses were eager to secure a place in the shopping center.
“I think that it’s sort of a new regional shopping destination that we’re creating. I think these stores saw an opportunity to join the center,” he said. “We still have other availabilities. We’re looking for local, regional and national stores and restaurants.”
Cucinatti said the businesses in North Quabbin Commons are doing well.
Town Manager Shaun A. Suhoski said he has been impressed with the shopping center’s continued growth of retail.
“RMD is making a concerted effort to next bring in some tenants that will expand business into the evening hours. This aspect will be yet another draw to land an 80-room hotel and conference center on the 16-acre parcel currently owned by the Athol Economic Development Industrial Corp.,” Suhoski said in a statement.
“I believe that other private investors have taken stock of the decision by (Market Basket CEO) Artie T. DeMoulas to invest in Athol and the North Quabbin region generally.”
Cucinatti said the Market Basket location opened on Feb. 14, 2015.
