As a 62-year-old native growing up and living in Northfield, I must say that I am sometimes ashamed of the conduct of some of the people that live in and around our beautiful little town. Apparently some people decide that their opinions are what the world revolves around and they are willing to commit cowardly acts behind the scenes to suppress other peopleโ€™s opinions.

The poor behavior I am referring to started 10 days before our neighboring state of New Hamphireโ€™s primary. My youngest son (also a Northfield native) put a couple of small signs up on his property to support his favored presidential candidate. After only one full day I got a text from him that said โ€œthe rats stole my signs.โ€ A low life move no matter how you personally feel politically.

Now, a few days ago my brother, another Northfield native, sends me a text that says โ€œmy sign in the middle of the swamp was stolenโ€. He had put a sign up supporting his presidential candidate of choice in the middle of the swamp at the Old Wannamaker Pond property that our parents left us. What type of people would be so narrow minded and so cynically driven to commit this type of political terrorism? As decent Americans, I trust that no one anywhere can condone this type of behavior. Whoever you are you are not welcomed in the town of Northfield that I grew up in and love. We have more class than that, go somewhere else!
