BUCKLAND — For the eighth year, several Buckland organizations are joining forces to put on the “Summer Day on the Buckland Common” event.

The free event will be held on Saturday, July 20, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Buckland Common is located at 17 Upper St., with event parking available at the lot on Charlemont Road or on Upper Street near the Buckland Public Library.

There will be craft vendors, a book sale from the library, food, music and games.

“I know my 7-year-old granddaughter is totally wound about the cake walk, which is basically musical chairs and the winner gets a whole cake,” commented Patricia Schmidt, one of the event’s organizers.

“The church community puts on a great barbecue with great food; they always overdo it,” Schmidt continued. “The Historical Society has great blueberry buckle they’ve been doing for several years, which is over the top.”

There will also be baby farm animals for children to meet. Schmidt noted a lot of families turned out for last year’s event.

Involved organizations include Mary Lyon Church, the Buckland Historical Society, Buckland Public Hall, the Buckland Union Cemetery Association, the Buckland Public Library and the Friends of Robert Strong Woodward. Schmidt thanked the event’s sponsors, Greenfield Cooperative Bank and Dr. Hauschka Skin Care.
